“What Remains” is a photo project that explores the remains of businesses that have closed. These photos are a snapshot in time that may capture the remaining structure or other elements.
The concept and the images however are separate. While the photos may capture an image in time of what is left, they are merely a vehicle into the minds of the viewer.
What remains is the memories of the viewer. A reminder of all the times driven by a restaurant thinking “we should stop in there sometime.”
Or the memories of shopping in your favorite shop. Perhaps it was a place where one worked, or even a business started or run by someone.
Ultimately, what remains is that which is gone but not forgotten.
